Privacy Policy

Overview

papertail is a personal budget tracking application. It connects to your bank account via the Plaid API to monitor transactions and send push notifications with budget summaries.

Data Collected

papertail accesses the following data through Plaid:

• Account balance — current available balance from your linked checking account
• Transactions — date, merchant name, amount, and category for each transaction

papertail also collects:

• Firebase Anonymous Auth UID — a random identifier, not linked to any personal account
• FCM token — your device’s push notification token
• Device label — an optional display name you choose (e.g., “Alex”)

No other data is collected. papertail does not access account numbers, routing numbers, Social Security numbers, or login credentials.

How Data Is Used

Data is used solely to:

1. Calculate your remaining budget for the current period
2. Send push notifications when new transactions are detected
3. Display budget information in the app

Data is never used for advertising, profiling, marketing, analytics, or any purpose beyond budget tracking.

Data Storage

• Transaction data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore, encrypted at rest
• Plaid access tokens are stored encrypted in Firestore
• FCM tokens are stored in Firestore for push notification delivery
• No data is stored in third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services

Data Sharing

Transaction and balance data is never shared with third parties. Data flows only between:

• Plaid — to retrieve bank data (governed by Plaid’s privacy policy)
• Firebase Cloud Messaging — to deliver push notifications
• Google Cloud — to host the backend API and database

papertail does not use any analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or third-party tracking.

Data Retention

• Transaction data is retained for the duration of your active subscription
• When you disconnect your bank or your subscription expires, all data is permanently deleted
• Firebase Anonymous Auth UIDs are retained until the device record is deleted

Data Deletion

You can delete all your data at any time:

1. Open the app → Settings → Disconnect Bank
2. This removes your Plaid connection, deletes all transaction data, and removes your device records

Alternatively, email support@papertail.app to request data deletion.

Children’s Privacy

papertail is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

This policy may be updated periodically. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
